How does this feature work (chess insights)?

http://en.lichess.org/insights/SupaHotFiya/ratingDiff/opponentStrength
Here is the statistics of how much rating does one gain depending on his opponents strength.
I don't understand how it work and what does these numbers mean.
-1.6; -0.0; 0.6; 1.5; 3.9.
I thought it was calculated by all rating from some opponents level (-200...-100) divided on the amount of games with such opponents. But I don't think it's how it is.
Can you (who understand in this) explain please how these numbers were calculated and what do they mean?
It's the average rating gain/loss per game against opponents from each category.
Quick analyse from me :
SupaHotFiya wins more points against strong players but tends to lose points against "much weaker" opponents.
Clarkey, yes I thought so. But average among how much games? because if one played 10 000 games, and his average rating gain is 2, it means he will gain 20 000 points after 10 000 games? What I miss there?
it depends if you played all your games against weaker players before all your games against stronger players or after :D
Frapator est sur tous les coups ! Trop polyglotte pour être au net !
Opponent strength Rating gain Number of games
Much weaker -1.6 1,785
Weaker 0.0 831
Similar 0.5 1,792
Stronger 1.6 622
Much stronger 3.9 750

In chess when you play some one your gain/loss is based on your ranking and opponents ranking.

For Example:

If you win against some one stronger level. You may gain 20-30 points
If you win against some one equal level You may gain 10-20 points
If you win against some one weaker level. You may gain 0-10 points

If you lose against some one stronger level. You may lose 0-10 points
If you lose against some one equal level You may lose 10-20 points
If you lose against some one weaker level. You may lose 20-30 points

When you take the above example into account.
Plus the information of your gains.
The picture becomes pretty clear!

You have a (Average Net Loss) against weaker opponents.
When I say (Average Net Loss) I am talking about point wise not player wise.
You may be beating them more than you are losing. However, in the end you are not benefiting.

For Example:

Lets pretend you played a total of 5 weaker players.
Lets pretend the results were the following:

You won against 4 weaker players.
You lost against 1 weaker player.

Lets say you gain 5 points each win.
Lets say you loss 25 points each loss

Since you beat 4 weaker players we times that by 5 points gained = 20 points.
Since you lost against 1 weaker player we times that by 25 points lost = 25 points.

Now we take your (Gains) - (Losses) = *Net Gain/Loss*
20 - 25 = *Net Loss of -5*

Now we have to find your average!
We take *Net Loss of -5* than divide it by your total games = (Average Net Loss)
-5/5 = 0

In this example your Rating Gain would be 0.0

Which is what your Weaker section shows!
Your Much Weaker section is worse!

I will use same example again and change the numbers to demonstrate!

For Example:

Lets pretend you played a total of 5 weaker players.
Lets pretend the results were the following:

You won against 3 weaker players.
You lost against 2 weaker player.

Lets say you gain 5 points each win.
Lets say you loss 25 points each loss

Since you beat 3 weaker players we times that by 5 points gained = 15 points.
Since you lost against 2 weaker player we times that by 25 points lost = 50 points.

Now we take your (Gains) - (Losses) = *Net Gain/Loss*
15 - 50 = *Net Loss of -35*

Now we have to find your average!
We take *Net Loss of -35* than divide it by your total games = (Average Net Loss)
-35/5 = -7

In this example your Rating Gain would be -7

So yeah you can see what I mean now.
Even though you are winning more games against much weaker opponents.
You long term are not making enough points from your wins to balance out the amount of points you are losing.
Which should be some red flags.
Obviously you should improve this type of thing.
or
Avoid playing much weaker competition all together simply because it is not profitable for you.
Xplayer

It is also based on your RATING DEVIATION (and possibly your opponent's too, I haven't seen the formula in ages)

If you have a high RD, you gain more and lose more points. The idea here is to get you to your true rating (with a low RD) faster
