The inquisition caught another cheater. Congratulations.

@scoreman:

you are not labeled as "a cheat", you are labeled for using engine help in rated correspondence games altough it is not allowed. According to your statement this happened due to a misunderstanding from your side, so maybe you will get another chance. But besides that this case is totally clear.

What I dont like is that you are claiming that everyone is using engines in correspondence - I dont like such an attitude.

I played a few correspondence games as well (still some in progress) and I would be angry if my opponents would use an engine. Either it is officially allowed or not.

You reached a really high correspondence rating of 2600+ by beating allot of "unarmed" players and I think you should take this into consideration as well and not just looking for some cheap excuses.

Best wishes

I don't understand one point : why on earth would someone use engine? (except for cheating of course, which seems not to be the case).

Nada, this is neither a bad attitude nor cheap excuses. In fact, i would not know what to excuse for. I either stay labeled, then i close this account and open a new one on which i will act accordingly. Or i won't, which i would prefer.

I am just pointing out why a debate is required how "correspondence" is handled on this site.
@scoreman:

the problem is exactly this: You dont know what to excuse for. This side is wrong in your opinion because its not allowed to play correspondence with engines.

In fact thats not the problem of Lichess thats your own problem. You have to accept the given conditions and rules and not the opposite.

Best wishes

@scoreman : what I don't like is that you call people protecting the website from cheaters "the inquisition".

They're not. They're here to enforce commonly accepted rules. People who don't like the rules can go away.

Once again, I don't understand why you don't play on dedicated correspondence websites, especially if you're looking for "strong opposition".
I dare to ask again : why do you use engine? what is the point?
Engines are supposed to be a tool for studying.

He already gave his answer: "To find chess truth".
Scoreman: Are you denying that you used an engine or admitting that you are?

In my game vs scoreman, there were a few highly suspicious moves that no human would really consider playing. Noticed a few of those when reviewing other games. And no, I didn't get a mention that you're using an engine before my game against you.

Not sure why you're bringing up correspondence in general. Lichess has its own rules, if you don't want to follow them don't play here.

Also what's the point and what is the time consuming aspect sin correspondence game if you're just using a computer? Sounds quick and dirty to me.

You're points are all over the place...
The fact of the matter is that you are cheating by using it in rated correspondence. It is not okay to use period even if your opponent knows before the game you were using it. In rated it is not okay PERIOD. Play casual if you want to use the engine and if your opponent says its okay.

2. Can I use an engine in casual games (or against stockfish/the puzzles/opening training)?

A: Yes. You may, however, let your opponent know you're using one. You can use an engine against stockfish if you please; games against the computer are never rated. Similarly, using an engine to solve a puzzle (or help you in the opening training) is not against the rules and you will not be marked as a cheater. But, should you use an engine for the training puzzles/openings, you'll only be cheating yourself.

3. Is it cheating if I use an opening book for correspondence games?

A: You may use an *opening book* for rated and/or unrated CORRESPONDENCE games. You can use a *book* and not a computer. Please let your opponent know that you are using a book - it's courteous.
