I think it's important to not go in a section that is too far above your strength. You might not learn anything from your losses because you don't yet have the knowledge to understand where you went wrong.
To get the required 1100+ rating to get to U1600 section from U1200 section I lost my first game and won the following three. So I scored 3/4 in this tournament. If I scored less I would not have been able to go to U1600 section. If I scored 3.5 or better, I would have got 1200+ rating and be forced to go to U1600 section.
By the way, the person who won the U1600 section in the tournament had about 1100 rating and played up. However, in higher section all the players who played up finished in the bottom. Also the CFC ratings are not equivalent to Lichess ratings. CFC rating starts at 200. The ratings are given in accordance with performance in long and exhausting tournaments.
