About me

I am 30 years old, former Quebec junior champion. I have been playing chess for about 23 years, and for the last fifteen years I have been privately coaching students (of all ages).

I live in Montreal, QC, Canada.

You can reach me at sicarius2357@gmail.com, as well as on skype under the same email as username.

Playing experience

I love chess and have been playing it for the last 23 years, progressing through the ranks with a self-taught system focusing on tactical evaluation.

2013 Quebec Junior Championship - 1st
2012 McGill Open Championship - 1st
2011 Montreal Open Championship - 2nd
2009 Canadian Zonal Championship - 3rd (FM title)

Teaching experience

I created my own curriculum during my youth to great success and have been teaching this method of thinking for 15 years now. I also worked extensively with the local chess and math clubs teaching children from 7-14 in groups and in private lessons. Several of my students have, with extensive study/tournament analysis, gone from 1750 - 2100 in rated tournaments over the course of several months.

Other experiences

I have also served as an annotator for my university's chess magazine as well as a chess tutor/teacher for local schools.

Best skills

I can provide my students with insight and advice at all levels of play and a systematic long term approach to chess. I would say my strong suit would tend more toward calculation, and the middlegame would be on average my strongest point compared to the endgame and openings.

Teaching methodology

I start by analyzing the past games of my students to identify and deconstruct their immediate weaknesses and bad habits. Then I help them understand the essential core principles governing the game starting from the opening all the way to the endgame. Once they have grasped the basics, we move on to the methodology and psychology of calculation; in order to accomplish this they will need to learn and implement a structured thinking method.
