How about adding a few recorded sounds of spectators muttering "blunder" or "yes, crushing" or "dead lost now" or "draw" or "game over, bro" maybe even a few gasps "oh no, not that knight"
and just have them play at random times in the verbal chat, but loud enough for the players to hear
