Aborting games should result in losing rating points.

Because if you wanted to avoid 1700s you should have used the rating filter instead of wasting your opponent's time.
@MasterMaro because it's the best pairing lichess could give you at that time given your criteria and because if you abort games you make pairings worse for everyone else.
I accidentally get paired with someone through the lobby, whilst I don't feel like playing. Otherwise I almost never use the abort feature.
I say we just leave everything as is.

If rating points were lost when you abort, people would abort MORE to sandbag (get into U1500, etc.)

And #16 made a good point why aborting games could be useful.

Exactly.

Yes.

Yeah and you just wasted someone's 10-45 seconds: time you need to abort, time they haven't got paired with anyone else and time they now again have to wait for new pairing. It's the worst when someone waits 20 seconds for the game to be aborted. A small rating penalty for your carelessness which lead to someone's time being wasted seems appropriate.

Sandbagging is a completely imaginary threat. You can achieve it by losing on purpose anyway. If you think people getting to U1500 is a problem then just don't allow people there who ever had rating higher than 1500 (or 1500+100 or whatever) - problem solved. They can make new accounts or lose on purpose anyway it's just not something that should bother anyone.

It's useful but it wastes time of others. There should be some incentive to be more careful and respectful of other players' time.
